We are renovating the restaurant and guesthouse

May 18th, 2009

Dear Visitor from our BLOG

After 3 weeks in Grenada we finally arrived here – the place we shall call “home” for the next few years! We have left rainy cold England behind and find ourselves only 10 hours away on this beautiful and sunny Island of  Grenada at 28 ° C  with its warm ocean welcoming us!.
The Cabier Ocean Lodge with its sandy beach lined by palm trees and the coral reef on the other side, is really a small paradise on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
Our friends here at the small village of Crochu organised a „Cooking” on the beach at full moon for us and it was easy to feel welcome and accepted in our new home country.
The blue sky and ocean around our guesthouse with its continually changing colours offers a breathtaking view from every room.
The first few days we ventured out to discover the surrounding areas and we are planning further quests to discover the nicest places there are on the island to show  our guests later.

Our Cabier Ocean Lodge will be closed till the end of June for renovations and the construction of new buildings!

Baustelle 18.05.09 001.jpg    Baustelle 18.05.09 003.jpg   Baustelle 18.05.09 002.jpg At the moment we are very busily renovating the whole guesthouse for the new opening at the beginning of July.
For those of you, who know Cabier Ocean Lodge already, you will be truly amazed at the astounding changes that have been taking place!
We are currently redecorating the restaurant and lounge area new – we are laying tiles in the inner courtyard and restaurant – we are installing a new barbeque area, where we shall be offering freshly barbequed fish and meat specialities.

We have a “stately lounge” with a panoramic 360 degree view of the ocean, which has not been used very much over the last few years. We are redesigning this room for our guests completely by installing an Internet Corner, TV and Games Facilities for their convenience.

The kitchen too is currently undergoing a complete “overhaul” – we shall be extending the kitchen area considerably to enable us to offer cooking workshops for our guests. My husband is a French Chef and brought his electric cooker all the way from France to our beautiful Island of Grenada! The proprietor of Cabier Ocean Lodge, Michael Boehm is giving us great freedom in expressing our own ideas! We shall be opening an intimate and exquisite restaurant with “A la Carte” Menu and Bar!

Once the restaurant has been refurbished, we shall then move on to redecorating all our guest bedrooms. We brought with us from Europe a whole container load of furniture and tools, which we shall use to refurbish our guest bedrooms and bring their facilities all up to date. All guest bedrooms will be equipped with new electronic safes and brand new light fittings. Furthermore WLAN-Net will be installed, which will provide easy Internet access from most guest rooms. Our guests will also have the opportunity to hire laptop computers from us.

Further modernisations are planned and new offers will be coming up. We shall keep you updated and wish you a summery time wherever you may be!

With kind regards

Iris and Bruno

Welcome to our BLOG

May 12th, 2009

We are the new managers at CABIER OCEAN LODGE and we would like to introduce ourselves.

Cabier Family

My name is Iris. I was born in Germany and grew up in Austria. After studying hotel and restaurant management I then worked in restaurants in a number of foreign countries.    I met my French husband Bruno in London. He had studied hotel management and cooking and then worked in London in a 4 star Restaurant.
From then on we worked together in England, Germany, Switzerland and France in well known hotels and restaurants. My husband also became a chef in a Michelin star restaurant in France.

We started our own business in France, a successful party catering service, which our oldest son Romain still runs. Our younger son Kevin is studying at a sport and health management academy in France.

We are really happy for the chance to fulfill our long held dream to manage a guesthouse and restaurant next to the ocean in such a special place as Cabier. We will endeavour to make our guests’ visits an unforgettable experience.
We have lots of ideas to enhance Cabier Ocean Lodge, but yet still keep the relaxed style and ambience of it as Grenada’s hidden treasure. We will naturally keep you informed about our plans for the future. As a start, in May and June, we will be closing the guesthouse to renovate all the rooms and we will also improve the standard of the restaurant.

As a first step we want to offer in our restaurant a wider variety of cuisine. We will take advantage of all the natural ingredients and cooking traditions Grenada has to offer, French and Creole cuisine, lobster specialties, but we will also be inventive with our menus. We will also offer cooking master classes and classic cocktail workshops.
Everyone needs to live and fulfill a dream. We are living ours and we will do all we can to help you to live yours, Whether it is just to relax far away from home on our deck overlooking the ocean with a rum punch, and watching the sun go down, after a day on the beach, or enjoying a special candlelit dinner with your partner, Cabier will give you the time and space to step out of this hectic world for a while and recharge your spirit and relax.

We will always be happy to welcome you at our special place in Grenada. Our job is to help you relax and wash away the cares of the world in beautiful surroundings accompanied with excellent food and a relaxing style of living.
Come and join us, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Fisherman Blackman died

May 14th, 2008

14.May 2008 -  We want to inform all our guests that our friend and fisherman Blackman died after an operation. He had a pain in his stomach for a long time and a operation 10 years ago. He painted nearly all the walls in Cabier in the last years. He brought us fresh fish directly to the lodge and was always in a good mood. A lot of our guests enjoyed a boat trip with him.

Two weeks before his sister (= Florence´s mother) died. For Florence, our housekeeper´s family it is a very hard time now. Our guests supported her with a BBQ at her shop that she can make more money, because a funeral in Grenada is a big event and very expensive.

Engagement on Sandy Island

December 23rd, 2007

Long before we left Switzerland, it was on my mind to propose to my girlfriend on Grenada. Since we knew that we would spent the last part of our trip at the Cabier Lodge, I contacted Evelyne and asked her about possibilities and suggestens regarding my plan.

Immediately, Evelyne came up with various ideas and I felt that I would get any support I need to make things happen according to my wishes. This was the case when we finally arrived at the Lodge (after 8 weeks of travelling) and needed a nice place to relax. Of course, my Conny had no clue what was waiting for her.

So that´s how it took place:

During breakfast, Michael asked us if we would join him for a trip to the north of the island. He pretended that he had to visit a fisherman and that he thinks we would like the landscape. Of course, we agreed and soon we drove through the island, enjoying the lovely surroundings.

As we arrived at the fisherman´s boat, Michael asked us to help him carry a coldbox to the boat. I whispered to Conny that we are now probably part of a smuggling deal, in the worst case carrying drugs to the fisherman;-)…

But in the coldbox was a bottle of champagne, Thomas-Sekt.jpg beer and other drinks, a lovely pasta salad, cakes in the shape of hearts…

Herztorte.jpg Conny was a bit surprised when the fisherman took us for a little boat trip, but she just couldn´t deny it, the day was just too beautiful and the beaches and the islands out in the sea amazing.

After a short ride, we arrived on an inhabited island, called “Sandy Island”, covered with palmtrees and with a lovely beach. It was then when Conny realized that we were not smuggling drugs, but rather on our way to a picknick at the beach…

After settling down at a nice place, we walked the beach a bit, looking for shells and indeed, Conny found a very beautiful one…containing a ring…Verlobungsring.jpg

The rest of our stay on the island belongs to privacy;-).

We thank Evelyne and Michael for their technical and emotional support and assistance. And we thank them for having gone through this day with us, as had it been their own engagement day;-).

P.S.: Should you wonder why you don´t find a picture showing both of us on the island: as mentioned, the island was INHABITED…;-)

We are from Switzerland and Eveline organized a restaurant for the dinner. It was a surprise for Conny, that we took her to ”Le Phare Bleu” - because it is owned from a Switzerland couple. Conny knew the owner, because she learned to play saxophon at his music school.
